28th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV

Paul Zarzyski and Henry Real Bird are two known Montana poets welcome in Elko. They've recited many years at Cowboy Poetry. I'm honored to experience their genius. This 2012 performance at the Western Folklife Center main stage portrays a wild west alive and free! Paul Zarzyski and Henry Real Bird are timeless champions whom invite us all participatory entrance into the western storytellers vast canvas.

2012 Cowboy Poetry Sara Sweatwater hosts her evening artist extravaganza. Each year we eat, mingle, and listen to fabulous poet and musical talents in her famous living room. Sara originally started the Poetry Gathering in Elko. Wishing these unique story tellers and poets world attention, Sara seeks verse, song, and story to make her dream reality. Poets and musicians from all over the world perform.
Australian poets, like Milton Taylor, have shared many poems at Sara's.
Carol from Australia honored us this year with humor and classic verse.

J.M. Capriola Co., a Nevada institution, has been part of cowboy life from the beginning. It's an honor to DJ western music for a second year.

At the new location 2012, the Flying Fish offered western music on vinyl Friday and Saturday evenings during the Poetry Gathering.

Above all, it's quality time spent with Mom, Dad, Nate(my family in the area), & Loni which is the best part of the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko.

If you have little ones or grandparents then toxic nano chemical particles are especially harmful to their sensitive immune systems. If our bodies immune system is compromised by these nano chemicals dropped on us, from government airplanes flying above, our bodies remain sick. Prone to more illness. Our communities remain ill more often and for longer periods of time. It becomes normal to be sick which is not normal! Our bodies immune system is the most important tool humans have to fight against disease. Why are we being systematically poisoned? A sick population is in need of more medicine. More care. More expensive costs result. A gov/corp pattern of intrinsic costs goes undiscussed. A sick population is controlled easily. This chemical attack is hurting Americans. With the lack of care, most of all, the earth's health is overlooked. This planet holds all our vital needs. Water, air are critical to survival. Stop this pollution madness immediately. Stop chem-trails and all poisons which destroy the earth. Only YOU can decide to put an end this insanity!

We left our mountain cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT early June. Winter 2010-11 brought 800" of snowfall and 170 ski daze at the epi-center of powder, The Wasatch.
Snow in Washington early June during the National Rainbow Gathering. Rolled to St. Johns July 8th post Rainbow. All this revitalized the 'American dream' for us!
Video footage truth of tent life on multi-story, downtown roof. Beautiful views of St. Helens, Mt. Hood, the St. Johns bridge. Rainier when it's perfectly clear. Climbed Mt. Rainier August 7-8. We love St. Johns! Artistic spontaneity & overflowing friendship reign. Few places in the U.S. rock this! Missoula two summers back. Cantina driven communities are legit communal towns. Real, raw, random, true. All invited. Story of the bohemian archetype thrives. Poet, actor, painter, writer, artist, traveler, athlete, musician, whatever, and you. Unique to the consumer culture dominant today.

Preface: Written two years ago. Pre mortgage crisis and collapse.

Eliot Spitzer, what we're you thinking? The Emperor Club VIP website is available to anyone who has internet. That's a lot of people. Tough investigation for the feds? Why go after Spitzer now? Is public office the best vocation for these men? Their prodigious sexual appetites are best served in private. Although, you're a target when you take on the Bush administration. Which is just what Eliot Spitzer did! His editorial piece in the Washington Post, last February 2008 described the goal of the mortgage crisis. How the Bushies used the OCC to cause failure in the lending 'game'. Purposely! If our economy falls will the Federal Reserve bail us out? They have much to gain from an economic collapse of this size. But, that's why 'the Fed' was created in 1913? To save the U.S. economy from a disaster. A secured private bank to assist in the gravest times of economic need? Not probably the intent of the founders, J.P. Morgan and J.R.Rockefeller. Weren't they publicly elected officials burdened with the difficult task of creating a National Bank? Nope, they were the richest in the land and knew the potential for a banking institution which prints all the money it wants, whenever. Weak currency is very lucrative for the very, very rich. Trillion dollar bills in Iraq. Afghanistan? An outsourced economy. Our precious industry supports other countries infastructure. What of our countries infrastructure? Lost! China, S.Korea, Japan, along with the oil producing countries are enjoying open trade relationships with U.S. We've taken massive loans from these same countries. Sold our lands to the highest bidders, wherever they may reside. This overspending pathology amazes. Who let this happen? Did the Federal Reserve have this planned? The Federal Reserve is a body of men whom answer to no one. They act totally independently of legislation. They meet in secret. This is democracy?
The constitution needs valid leaders to enact it's potential. The Bill of Rights, which was given away by Congress during the Bush administration's Patriot Act, falls. Men are weak to power and, like Spitzer, sex. Our forefathers feared an aristocracy and now we are one! Don't let this plan happen so easily for these kings?!? It's time to use your capitalist system to your advantage. It's time you took your consumerism serious. It's time you stopped being apathetic, lost purchasers. Be an active patriot. Be a responsible consumer. Take our country back!!!

The Outsourcing of the Jobs in the United States

   Reaganomics allowed a product outsourcing by United States corporations. The trickle down economic plan rewarded the wealthy with tax breaks designed to generate business and jobs. The opposite occurred. Profits were sought, not job infrastructure for American families. Corporations moved overseas to third world economies for profits. Huge profits were made for the corporations. Wages non-existent. The workers in third world economies are not given a working wage from this plan. Their situation made desperate from this lack. A multi-dimensional cultural decay followed.
   There is a critical and necessary cog to the American Dream. Industry which, in turn, creates jobs. Specifically, industry in the United States. Product innovation thrives and growth spurs a strong work force.
   The United States under Bill Clinton passed NAFTA. CAFTA under Bush Jr. These legislative shackles equalled the corporations ruthless methods in the previous years. Mexico was ill equipped to compete within the American economy. They have been suffering since from NAFTA. CAFTA has had similar enslaving affects in Central America. Bush Jr.'s attempt to pass similar legislation in South America failed.
   The varied world cultures affected have lost nearly everything. Lives and dignity. American jobs will only return when jobs are again available to American workers.
   As of now, the United States becomes part of a long line of Colonial powers to preach a dogma. In this case, 'the american dream'. This shrewd, fierce attack by bankers who control your country is going unnoticed by 'most' Americans.
Why?!?
   The theory of the American Dream is all we can hold onto now. A theory and nothing more. There is no working American Dream without jobs. Like the Catholic church, the 'great' institution of theory failures, we are pontificating our dogma.
   We let the corporations along with the U.S. government take our jobs away from this great land and export them to third world economies. Those workers have no say. This catastrophic economic event ruins third world cultures. All of which have a far older history than the young United States. With American jobs overseas, the future to the American Dream is a certain collapse.

Jimmy Zell: The Original Ski Outlaw

I was at the bottom of Granite Canyon. Early 90’s, coming into the boulder fields, about to ‘git my way back to the Village. Sun cracked sky. Heaven, as I looked up steep pitch. Came upon me was the swiftest, fastest skier I'd seen. More similar to the natural athleticism of a wild animal. A hawk with skis on. Soaring vertically like water down a tremendous waterfall. He ripped past me and was gone from sight. I was standing in awe. Crystallizing smoke filled sky disappeared into white. JZ crushing Granite on a deep pow day. I rubbed my eyes, pinched myself twice. Yep, that was real. I didn’t know this person then? Only heard of JZ in stories. Shit, until then I wasn’t sure he was even real? Was now! Saw him jump from the upper deck at the Mangy Moose onto the writhing crowd at a Fishbone show. The lead singer Anthony, mic in hand, was crowd surfing. His epileptic movements bouncing him around the room. He was screeching out, ‘when I die, bury me in the mosh-pit’. From the above floor, over the wooden rail came JZ onto the that mosh-pit madness. Onto the unexpecting bodies of enthusiastic sweating dancing fans. Legendary Jimmy Zell.

He taught me the Après Vous lift traverse. I told my buddy Rooney about it. Changed our days at the Village forever. From that inspiration, Alan and I thought up some hilarious creative ways to ride at the village. The outlaw reality. To ski wherever. Regardless!

JZ is like a Van Gogh to me. He is and was his art. Skiing. The original ski outlaw. Like the famous artist, a brilliant talented art original. The art of ski movement. Mountains his canvas and steep pitch his brush.

He showed me Chicken Scratch back in the day. In the ole' days. Back when Rooney and I post-holed to Bear Claws. Nights later at the Coach, over tequila shots I bought, he told me to #$%@ off. Who knows why? I humbly took it. JZ was a Jackson icon. He did what he wanted most the time. In those early days, before I got to know him better, I was half scared of Jimmy. His piercing eyes like a wild animal would rate you or you’d immediately rate yourself? Years later when I got to know him better; I was definitely half scared of him! He was one of the wildest spirits I’ve met in ski country.

I was in Wilson. He wanted to sell me some old Nordicas. They were like hard basketball shoes. Low profiled and stiff as hell. ‘Ski with your feet’ he barked. I didn’t buy the boots. Remembered the advice forever.

I remember the phone call at basecamp that late WY summer. We were on the couch inside. C.R. picked up the line. Kiwi was on the other end. Jimmy had fallen. Fallen hard while paragliding in Mexico. Fallen far. Weeks before when we’d seen them off, many in town wondered their fate? Jimmy did what he wanted most of the time. The truck looked like a fortress on wheels. Adventure gear sticking out everywhere. They were headed south of the 'borders'. Latin syle. Big adventures envisioned. That changed, things changed, changes are the only things certain of life.

I’m looking at the JACKSON HOLE NEWS, Wednesday , January 8, 1997 “Hole to the Rescue…HOLE FAMILY” article. Jimmy skiing on the front page. $35,ooo raised for his medical expenses at that party. One of the classic Jackson valley gatherings in support of their fallen warrior. He was a great spirit of Jackson Hole. Raw, real! He was 100% Jimmy Zell. Nothing else. Committed to skiing. His outlaw life was infamous. His mountain athletic diligence untouchable. His skill unmatched. No one who is anyone would ever argue this fact. His life legendary for all the ‘folks’ whom call Jackson their home today, then and forever.

It was the high water mark, to me. The innocent years were gone. Big money was close, changes looming. This is before anyone was really making squat filming. No ski celebrities. Many legitimate mountain bad asses. BeforeYouTube. Before speed drugs hit the valley. Before all the cops and Cheney had firmly entrenched themselves. Before the wealthy east coast land grab and southern frat attack. Back when architects and realtors were few. Wilson was a small cowboy town. But...the spirit can never be taken. Current Jackson is corporate. The core of dedicated mountain warriors soldiers on! They live in the light and the epic mountain dream. Dedicated to the truth JZ lived. There still is no place like 'Jackson Hole'. After living there years, my life has never been the same since . I will never forget that day in Granite seeing JZ thundering down. It raised the bar and I've been chasing powder all around the world since. What was special in those years, we were safe from ‘the cool’. We were bonded by powder somehow. Massive weather patterns. Living in our cars. Laundry rooms. Alleys. Schoolbuses. Wherever. Not the bling but the experience. The adventure. The community. All part of an orchestra, one group making harmony as individuals.
